In a proactive move to combat vector-borne diseases ahead of the monsoon season, a team from Tata Steel Utility and Infrastructure Services Limited (TSUISL) conducted an engaging dengue awareness drive at Loyola School, Jamshedpur.
The event featured an energetic Nukkad Natak (street play) performed by the visiting team. Through dramatic storytelling, rhythmic chants, and lively dialogue, the performers effectively illustrated how the Aedes aegypti mosquito breeds in clean, stagnant water and how simple daily habits can curb the spread of dengue fever.
Key Takeaways & Preventive Measures Highlighted:
Eliminate Stagnant Water: Regularly check and clear water accumulation in flowerpots, coolers, discarded tyres, and open containers around homes and classrooms. The slogon “Abki baar Palti Maar” was repeated in chorus during the presentation.
Personal Protection: Use mosquito repellents and wear full-sleeved clothing during peak mosquito activity times.
Community Responsibility: Act as young health ambassadors by educating family members and neighbours about hygiene and vector control.
The interactive play captured the attention of both students and faculty members, transforming a serious public health topic into a memorable learning experience. Following the performance, the TSUISL team addressed questions from the students, reinforcing the message that preventing dengue is a collective community responsibility.
Speaking on the initiative, school management expressed sincere gratitude to Tata Steel Utility Services for taking the lead in safeguarding community health through creative educational outreach. The school management emphasized that empowering students with knowledge is the most effective way to drive long-term civic action.
