Loyola School hosted the Thomas Paul Science Quiz 2026 on August 22, bringing together some of the brightest young scientific minds from across Jamshedpur, Bhubaneshwar and Dhanbad, in a spirited celebration of knowledge, curiosity and scientific inquiry. The quiz sought to encourage students to question, explore, discover and engage with the fascinating world of science.
The event was graced by Rector Fr. Michael T. Raj, Principal Fr. Vinod Fernandes, Vice Principal Mrs. Jayanthi Sheshadri, Coordinator Ms. Victoria Prasad, Discipline In-charge Mr. Aditya Arunesh, and Quiz Master Mr. Deepak P. Kamath.
Held in memory of Sir Thomas Paul, a respected teacher of Physics and Mathematics at Loyola School, the quiz commemorates his enduring contribution to education. Remembered for his clarity, dedication and quiet passion for teaching, he left an indelible impression on generations of students.
The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by a prayer song presented by the school choir. Fr. Vinod Fernandes delivered the welcome address, setting the tone for an engaging day of intellectual challenge and discovery.
The Quiz Master, Mr. Deepak P. Kamath, a proud alumnus of Loyola School, batch of 1988, and currently the Chief Executive Officer of Tata Steel Support Services Limited,
brought considerable professional experience to the event.
The Preliminary Round witnessed enthusiastic participation from 21 teams, who competed for a place in the coveted on-stage final. Following an intense preliminary contest, the Vice Principal Mrs. Jayanthi Sheshadri announced the six teams which had qualified for the final round. They were — Zenith (De Nobili School, CMRI Dhanbad), Matrix (JUSCO School, Kadma), Titan (DBMS English School), Curie (Sacred Heart Convent School), Hawking (Little Flower School) and Galileo (Rajendra Vidyalaya).
The occasion also featured a felicitation ceremony to honour Mr. Deepak Kamath for guiding the participants through the challenging and engaging quiz. Fr. Michael T. Raj, Mrs. Jayanthi Sheshadri and Fr. Vinod Fernandes presented the Quiz Master with a shawl and memento as a token of appreciation.
The winner was Team Titan of DBMS English School with 110 points. The Runner-up was Team Hawking of Little Flower School with 70 points.
The Thomas Paul Science Quiz continues to serve as a fitting tribute to an inspiring educator while nurturing the spirit of scientific inquiry, intellectual curiosity and healthy competition among young learners.
The awards were given away by the Principal, Fr. Vinod Fernandes, Mrs. Jayanthi Sheshadri, Mr. Kamath and the teacher moderators of the Physics and Chemistry Club, Mrs. Kiran Kumari and Mrs. Rajani Kumari.
