Life is incomplete without sports. It is that shade of life which teaches the most valuable lessons on perseverance, patience, unity, sportsmanship, leadership, and a competitive spirit. A day, students wait for, with bated breath.
The much awaited 73rd Annual Sports Day 2023 was marked with excitement and enthusiasm.
The day started off with the unfurling of the flag by the Chief Guest, Mr. Rituraj Sinha, Managing Director at Tata Steel Utilities and Infrastructure Services Limited. The students entered into the spirit of the occasion in a majestic way with the Inter House March Past.
Of the 4 Houses, namely the Charismatic Cheetahs, the Passionate Panthers, the Dynamic Leopards and the Ferocious Jaguars
Under the leadership of the 2 CNCs, Ashutosh Singh and Rishi Ranjan, thus displaying the synchronized swing of arms and the thudding feet stirring to the drumbeat rolls.
This was followed by the lighting of the pious flame by our 4 budding athletes Tarosh Singh, Aditi Kumari, Kevin D’ Souza and Priyanshu Rai, the flame symbolizing the light of spirit, knowledge and life. The release of balloons marked the official opening of the sports meet. In his speech, Mr. Rituraj Sinha, highlighted the importance of sports in promoting the mental and physical well- being of the students. The oath taking ceremony was administered by Anushka Parmar, wherein students pledged to uphold the honour and spirit of true sportsmanship.
Students of the sixth grade displayed a wide array of mesmerizing performances on Sustainable Development Goals in a tableaux form as well as environment friendly messages pertaining to global issues like health, education, clean water, peace, justice and many more. Equally enthralling was the spectacular presentation by the students of the seventh grade displaying India’s triumphant journey in the world of sports. Be it the honourable success at the Asian Games or the glory achieved while lifting the World Cup. The coordinated rhythmic performances gave way to the adrenaline – charged atmosphere.
A plethora of various track and field competitions such as 100 mts. Sprint, 200 × 4 mts. Relay, 100mts. Alumni Races and 100 × 4 mts. Relay marked the main events. Once the events began, the air was filled with cheering and tons of encouragement for the runners. The Closing Ceremony programme commenced with a warm welcome of the Chief Guest Col. Vinay Ahuja, who has worked in Operations like Vijay and Rakshak after being commissioned into Army in 1999.
The programme continued with prize distribution in different categories. The Panther House lifted the
overall Championship Trophy, followed by the Leopard House in the 2nd position. The Leopard House
bagged the Best Marching Contingent Trophy, followed by The Jaguar House. The best disciplined house was The Cheetah House. Col. Ahuja declared the sports meet close. He applauded the students for their sportsmanship qualities and stressed on the fact that winning or losing in sports is not at all important, but the happiness originating from the participation in sports is highly cherished trophy.
Fr. Vinod Fernandes, Principal, Loyola School, proposed the Vote of Thanks. The Mega Day was called off with the school anthem.
